Announcing the 1st Annual Stumpy’s Petals & Paddles Race!

Join us on Thursday, March 20 from 4-7pm for an unforgettable adventure on the water as we celebrate the first day of spring and the start of the National Cherry Blossom Festival!

Stumpy’s Petals & Paddles Race is a fun and competitive tandem paddling race set against the breathtaking backdrop of D.C.’s iconic cherry blossoms. Whether you’re in it to win it or just for the fun of it, this event is the perfect way to kick off the season!

Race Details:

Location: Tidal Basin Boathouse in Washington, D.C.
Race Day: Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 4-7PM
Participant Registration: $100 per team of two (+$20 for additional team members)


Timed Heats:

  • 6 timed heats – compete for the fastest time!
  • 24 boats per heat (12 launched from West Side, 12 launched from East Side)
  • All boats pedal towards the Jefferson Memorial, go around the bouy, then head along the east side of the Basin.
  • Racers should check their confirmation email for their assigned start time and plan to arrive 15–30 minutes beforehand to get ready.

Prizes:

  • Fastest Time Per Heat gets a $50 Boating in DC Gift Card – Paddle to victory!
  • Fastest Time Overall – a 2025 Boating in DC Family Season Pass
